Feeding the Fair

Well, thanks to Jackie I now have the link to the news clip of Kelley, Darcie and me doing our thing at the fair. Feeding the entertainment that is. It was a good year with Huey Lewis and the News performing on Thursday night and Rodney Atkins on Saturday night. With my new knee I only stayed long enough to do my job, wash dishes, clean up and Saturday night-pack up. Then I came home. It was still too much though and I paid dearly for it all day on Sunday. Things went really well though but I have to say, with this knee, I'm just glad it's over for another year. I can stand to only do it once a year. Any more than that and I think I'd have to quit.

I so enjoy spending time with Kelley and Darcie. It's sad that fair time is about the only time we spend any amount of time together. Kelley has been a good friend over the years and Darcie, well Darcie is family. That's all there is to it. Literally!

Any way, here's the link if anyone's interested. Thanks Jackie!

Insomnia . . . Uggghhhh!

What can I say, except that it's 3:30 a.m. and here I am. AWAKE again. I'm getting really tired, yes , , , I said "tired" of these sleepless nights. Ever since my knee surgery I just can't seem to get comfortable in my bed. My knee is still numb in so many places and my surgeon told me yesterday that I may never get that all back. Oh yeah! Night before last I couldn't fall asleep until almost midnight and then I was awake at 2:00 and tossed and turned until 4:00. Then I dozed until about 5:00 and was awake the rest of the night. I guess by 5:00 it's not night anymore anyway and I got up and got ready to go to school early to run off some papers for the week. But of course, I ended up with a low tire and had to stop at Les Schwab's to have it fixed and they don't open until 8:00 so I said forget it and went to school anyway.

It sure makes for a long day when you don't get any sleep. I had two doctor appts. yesterday. First with Dr. Selznick, my surgeon, and then with Dr. Davis, my lap band doc. Dr. Selznick couldn't believe I was walking so well and without the use of a cane even. He hugged me twice and told me how proud he was of my recovery. I told him I had gone back to work after nine days and he said he had never, ever had anyone do that before. That it was unheard of to not be out for at least a three week period of time and usually it was six weeks. I told him I didn't have much of a choice with school starting so fast after my surgery. But he still couldn't believe it. I have 110 degrees of bend in my knee and can flex to a nice and flat 0 degree. He said he was amazed! That made me feel pretty good. My only complaint was the numbness which he said may or may not come back but should get somewhat better, and the insomnia. He said that was normal and told me to take some pain pills before going to bed. I told him Bob thought I was going through them too fast so I had really cut down and he told me to stop that. He dictated a note to Dr. Garbarini asking him to be kind to me when I run out of my pain meds because I could be needing them for up to five months. He also told me that I don't have to do anymore physical therapy so I cancelled my appt. with them for today. Then he asked me if I wanted him to give me something to help me sleep. I told him I'm not a big fan of Ambien but he told me I needed sleep for my body to heal so he wrote a script for twenty of them. I took one last night and fell right to sleep, no tossing and turning or anything. It was great! but now, here I am. Same old, same old! I guess I should of had him make it the Ambien CR which is supposed to last all night so you sleep through till morning. Oh well, I guess this will have to do.

Then I went down stairs to see Dr. Davis. I have lost nine pounds since I saw him last and he was very excited. He said this is the most weight I've lost in one appt. since the surgery. My BMI has gone from 44 which was in the obese and candidate for surgery category to a 36 which is now below the candidate for surgery level and only one point in the obese level. He said once I'm below that I will never go back again. This surgery assures me of that. I was pretty excited. He said he wants me down two more points by my next visit in two months. When I asked him how much I had to loose to be there he said he wouldn't tell me because he doesn't want me to worry about the scales and those numbers, just concentrate on eating healthy and exercising. I told him ya, right. With my knee like this and he said to just keep doing what I've been doing. The thing I mostly have been doing though is cutting out the sweets and the candy. That's a really hard one for me but since we've been home from Canada I have really stayed away from them. Any way, I felt pretty good about that visit too. I know loosing weight is a huge pain in the rump but if I just take it one day at a time and concentrate on eating healthy I know I can do it. I'm going to shoot for six pounds by my next visit and see what I can do. I just have to recommit myself and promise to follow through.

Well, it's now almost 4:00 and in an hour or so I have to be getting up anyways so I might as well try to get some sleep. Maybe I will take a pain pill after all. I could use one, my leg never stops throbbing. Catch you later!
